......there was never a dull moment working with Hillary. Time keeping for him was key in every thing I remember before I got used to it. I can't remember how we met but I remember he came to the studio and said he was referred to us by someone i had worked with and that was the beginning of a long working relationship.
That was about 10 years ago and I got to know Hillary as a friend and also colleague as we shared interesting moments. His work ethic was amazing and I got to learn a lot from him and he had a lot of discipline. He had a great impact in my life and also influenced me in what I did production wise and from his nuggets of wisdom.
No words are enough to describe this amazing mentor who had passion for his work. I am glad I got the chance to work with him and will greatly miss the project we did with him ... MAKERS OF A NATION that got me in touch with our country's history.
I celebrate you great veteran, colleague and friend

Nuru Mugambi laid a flower
I met Hilary when I was about 16 or 17 years old when my father Tarichia Mugambi was working with him on the STV project. I would visit their offices at Prudential Assurance Building often; he would later introduce me to Amolo who was kind enough to give me an internship at Africa Online when I finished high school. Hilary was always so kind and generous when I visited his very "full" office...it was full of photos, documents, reports. I remember wondering if he read all of this material...Im sure he did!
He also was very helpful when I was leaving for my university studies in the US. We would later reconnect when I joined Kenya Bankers Association in 2012, at the time he had been engaged by KBA on a history documentary project and he needed someone internally to work with ... and as the only employee in the communications department at the time, I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with him literally on a day to day basis for months...I learned a lot about history and storytelling from Hillary. The documentary was launched by President Kibaki...in true Hillary fasion, he declined the invitation because he said he didnt do the project for PR purposes ... lol :) ... but that was the relationship I guess we built over 20 years. You could always count on Hilary for wisdom and to tell it like it is!

Go Well legend. I, alongside several generations owe you a debt of gratitude for sharing with us your lion heart and spirit which boldly, yet softly, told us "you are masters of our own fate". You lived your deep truth. And your example is what will perpetually dare us to live our own truths. Now it's time to rest Sir. Your job here is done. #RipHilaryNgweno

I am not sure how to do this. How do I describe someone so special in a few words? It is almost impossible for me to sum up memories of such a great person in one tribute. Amolo's dad, Bettina's dad, is how I referred to you depending on who I was hanging out with at the time. It really breaks my heart to write this today as I have known you half my life. I cannot begin to explain the impact you had in my life directly or through your beautiful wife Fleur and your daughters.
You were more than just the father of my good friends, you were an icon who stood for many things that I admired. In my eyes you were my silent mentor that made me believe that impossible things were indeed possible. And true enough, through my early interactions with Amolo, we made the impossible possible. Bettina and I are still trying to make possible things that seem impossible.
You may have departed, but you have left behind beautiful and happy memories to comfort us and we will continue to keep your spirit alive and to honor you..
Your life was a blessing and your memory a treasure that will forever live in our hearts.
