John Karanja

BIRTH

John Karanja Gachema was born on 17th July 1965, at kwa lee village, Tulaga location, Nyandarua county.  His parents are Paul Gachema Karanja and Alice Wangui Gachema. His siblings are Grace Muthoni, David Gathungu, the late Peter Njoroge, Simon Kariuki, George Kinuthia and Francis Gitau.

CHILDHOOD

John Karanja Gachema was brought up just like any other child of his age, helping his parents with family chores.

EDUCATION

John Karanja Gachema started his early education at  Mutamaiyu Primary school from 1974 Upton 1980 after completing his CPE exams and passed with flying colours.He later did a mechanical course.

WORK

John Karanja travelled to Nairobi in 1985 and joined his father and sister. He ventured into various businesses like, Boutique, Auto Mechanic among others before joining the Nairobi City Council in 1992 where he has been working until his demise.

MARRIAGE

John Karanja got married to the love of his life Elizabeth Kaari Karanja in 1993 and were blessed with two children , Shanice Wangui Karanja and Robert Gachema Karanja . They have lived a happy life as a close family unit.His grandchildren are, Aaliyah Gathii Gombe and crystal Kaari Gachema.

CHURCH

John Karanja grew up in ACK Church since childhood where he was baptised and confirmed under the care of his parents.He has also been a worshiper at ACK st. Luke's Umoja church since ,until his demise.

They also solemnised their marriage with his wife on 14rh December 2003 at ACK st. Stephen Dandora church.

SICKNESS

Karanja was attacked by unknown people back in August 2016 and sustained serious head injuries. He was admitted at Nairobi West Hospital and spend six weeks in ICU. By the grace of God he recovered and was discharged from hospital to go home. He has been under care of his loving wife and children since then with some occasional visits to hospital for review and check up.

DEMISE

On Saturday 1st July 2023, he was visited by his youngest brother George Kinuthia's family and friends from Kinangop and they spent a very good time together. Karanja was very jovial and in high spirit throughout the day praising and worshipping God with them. However at about 3pm, he suddenly developed breathing difficulties and was rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
