A dark cloud has nested the larger Lwakhanga village in Busia county. We regret to announce to you the sudden death of Christopher Mckenzy Okotch, at Lodwar referral hospital.
Christopher was born to his late parents Paul Okotch and Florence Achieno on the 22nd April 1986. Upon the death of his mother in March 2006, the late Christopher was raised by his step mother Mrs Rosa Awino. The deceased hails from Lwakhanga, Ruambwa sub-location, Budalang’i sub-county in Busia county. The late Christopher is a brother to Joanes Okotch, Pamela Okotch, Lilian Okotch, Bonface Okotch, Patrick Okotch, Jackline Okotch, Chrispinus Okotch (twin), Esther Okotch and Irene Okotch.
Christopher was a humanitarian professional, with an academic background in Civil Engineering and Environmental Health. He provided programme strategic leadership and management roles in the field of Water, Sanitation, Hygiene Promotion (WASH) and climate change. Christopher started off his career with Kenya Red Cross Society KRCS, in the year 2011 till end of May 2021. With the KRCS he worked in various roles and locations; Watsan intern/ volunteer (Isiolo – Isiolo county), WatSan project officer (in both Ikutha - Kitui county and Loitoktok - Kajiado county), WatSan officer (Marigat - Baringo County) and later Branch coordinator in Marigat Baringo County. In addition he was deployed to support floods emergency response in Western Kenya.
Christopher later joined Medecins San’s Frontiers (MSF Swiss), in September 2021 as a Water and Sanitation Supervisor, based in Dagahaley camp in Daadab. He worked with MSF for 9 months till May 2022.
Until the time of his death, Christopher was working with Save the Children International (SCI), as a Humanitarian WASH officer, based in Lodwar. He started his nine month’s contract with the SCI mid- August 2022 and was due to end in June 2023. Christopher passed on in Lodwar, having worked for only three months.
Christopher leaves behind a widow Jacinta Ojiambo and three children; Wayne Okotch (form 1 at Rapogi Boys High school, Migori), Claire Okotch (primary 8 KCPE candidate at Baraka school Kapsabet) and finally Brevian Okotch (primary 7 at St. Augustine school Butunyi in Butula).
We loved Christopher, But God loved him more. Rest in Peace
