Benard Ogodo

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Benard Ochineg’ Ogodo on the 17th April 2025. Ochieng was renowned international journalist who until his death was the East Africa editor of American independent media agency organization Mongabay.

He was the beloved husband to Dorcas Akinti and Edwina Oyoo and loving father to Isaac Odhimabo, Stefany Achieng, Elly Onyango Ochieng, and Baraka Rateng’ Ochieng’.

He was son to the late Tobias Ogodo Asigo, Getrude Adongo Ogodo, Hulda Akong’o Ogodo and the late Wilkista Ogweno Ogodo of kanjira location, Karachuonyo sub-county, Homa-bay County.

He was brother to Meresia Ouma, the late Jacob Oguda, the late Wilfred Jaoko, Plycap Ogodo, the late Pamela Awuor, Olivia Ogodo, Hellen Ogodo, Eunice Ochuotho, Matilda Ogodo, the late Amos Okoth, the late Elly Onyango, Janet Yoto, the late Peninah Osumo, Grace Ogodo, Denish Ogodo, Gilbert Ogodo, Felix Ogodo, the late Dorothy Ogodo, Everlyne Obudho, Millicent Ogodo, Pauline Ogodo, Jackline Ogodo, Violet Ogodo, and Derick Ogodo.

Brother-in-law to the late Mary Ochanda, the late Hellen Ochanda, Annette Ogodo, Florence Jaoko, Rebecca Jaoko, Eunice Akoko, Joyce Denish, Naomi Gilbert, Emma Felix, Naomi Derick, and Judith Aketch.

Also brother-in-law to Andrew Oketch, Sospeter Ongoso, John Owuora, the late Mark Ogema, Heman Ochuodho and Onesmus Kariuki.

He was uncle to many.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday 7th May 2025 at All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi from 2:00PM to 4:00PM.

The body leaves for Karachuonyo, Kanjira on Thursday 8th May 2025, and burial will take place on Friday 9th May 2025 at his home in Kanjira, Karachuonyo, Homabay County.
